MEET ROBERT GARCIA, CPA

Robert Garcia’s story is one of resilience, second chances, and a deep commitment to creating opportunity for others.
A proud father of three boys who attend public schools in NEISD in District 9, my commitment to education is both personal and deeply rooted in my family and our community.
Raised on the West Side of San Antonio, my path was not always clear. I dropped out of John Jay High School as a junior—but I refused to let that moment define my future. I made the decision to go back and graduate the very next year, setting the foundation for a life built on determination and purpose.
That purpose was shaped when Alamo Colleges opened Northwest Vista College near my home. That investment in our community became an investment in me. Through the 2+2 program, I earned my associate degree and transferred to UTSA, where I became deeply involved in student leadership and helped lead one of the most transformative efforts in the university’s history—bringing football to campus and to San Antonio.
I went on to earn both my Bachelor’s in Accounting and Master’s in Taxation, beginning my career at KPMG and building over 20 years of financial leadership experience. Today, as a CPA and small business owner, I lead a successful accounting firm focused on strengthening organizations, ensuring accountability, and protecting taxpayer dollars.
But my work doesn’t stop at business—it’s rooted in service.
I am already doing the work.
I created an internship program through my firm to equip students with real-world skills in marketing and accounting, while helping aspiring accountants pursue their CPA. I also established an annual scholarship program—intentionally removing GPA barriers—to expand access and have awarded over $10,000 to deserving San Antonio students. As a mentor and financial coach, I work closely with students, small businesses, and nonprofits, helping them build knowledge, confidence, and long-term success.
As a strong advocate for economic opportunity, I have championed small businesses through my leadership in the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the SA to DC delegation, helping secure $15.3 million in ARPA funding for small businesses and nonprofits and advocating for policies that support local entrepreneurs.
I believe leadership is about listening and bringing people together. Through initiatives like Better Together, I connect emerging leaders with civic, business, and community leaders to strengthen collaboration and build a more engaged city.
I currently serve on the UTSA Alumni Association Board, the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Board, and the Texas A&M Mays Center Community Advisory Council, and previously served four years as HOA president in my community, representing over 1,200 homes.
I am a proud product of Alamo Colleges—and a living example of what access to education can make possible.
I am committed to bringing responsible financial leadership, expanding pathways to good-paying jobs, and ensuring leadership that listens—so every student in District 9 has the opportunity to succeed.
